FanimeCon 2014 – HOME MADE KAZOKU Family Time!

This year’s FanimeCon guest lineup was awesome. HOME MADE KAZOKU, a Japanese Hip-Hop trio formed in 1996, have made hit anime opening songs in their album releases for popular shows like Bleach (“Thank You!!”) and Eureka 7 (“Shounen Heart”). I never thought I would get the chance to see them live, so when I learned they would be making their first appearance in the states I got real hyped up for it. Continue reading

FanimeCon 2014 – GAINAX (Gurren Lagann Creators)

A huge event I was looking forward to during FanimeCon was the GAINAX panel. Gurren Lagann – considered by many to be the brainchild of their work – is a classic anime tale. The journey of a ragtag band of humans that started off as cave dwellers and then ended up battling evil with giant robots across the universe, is the kind of story that only a creative studio like GAINAX could pull off. FanimeCon 2014 – Dinner with Yuumei

Finally got to meet a personal inspiration of mine – Yuumei, a marvelous artist. Her real name is Wenqing Yan and I found that she also attended UC Berkeley. I’ve been following her artwork for years without knowing she was in the Berkeley area until recently, when I came across an article highlighting her talent on the Daily Cal. I also have countless wallpapers of her art on my laptop and phone. Continue reading

FanimeCon 2014 – Intro

I went to my first anime convention when I was a sophomore in college. The annually held convention was called Anime Destiny and was located in the MLK Student Union building on the UC Berkeley campus. I didn’t actually plan for it; upon walking back on my usual route through Sproul Plaza I noticed a bunch of cosplayers entering the building. I decided to follow them up to the third floor and was led to a grand exhibition of anime trinkets, video gaming, art, and concerts. Continue reading
